What does hypnosis feel like?
Hypnosis is a very relaxing experience, similar to daydreaming. We call this relaxation a trance and you naturally experience this many times a day – when you are driving, watching TV or reading for example. For this reason it often feels very ordinary and enjoyable.
Can you make me do anything I don't want to?
No. Although you are relaxed your mind is alert and you are aware of what is happening. You are completely in control at all times. I will only make positive suggestions, which you will only take on board if you want to.
How do I become hypnotised?
I will guide you into a relaxed state by talking you through a relaxation process. It is a very gentle process helping you to gradually feel more and more relaxed.
What is the Initial Consultation for?
The Initial Consultation is optional but it can be useful if you would like more information before coming for your first appointment. At the Initial Consultation you can find out more about hypnotherapy and how the brain works. We will discuss how you would like help and you can ask questions and decide whether hypnotherapy is right for you. We can discuss what goals you would like to work towards and plan how to help you work towards them. You will also receive a relaxing MP3 to use at home.
What happens in a hypnotherapy session?
Hypnotherapy is a combination of psychotherapy and hypnosis. The sessions are positive, relaxed and informal. You only talk about the things that you want to discuss and we focus on solutions that will help you achieve the changes that you want to make. At the beginning of the session we will talk about the progress you have made so far and then discuss how you can continue this. This is followed by the relaxing hypnosis which will consolidate what we have discussed. The aim is that at the end of the session you will feel more positive, stronger in yourself and motivated.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies from person to person and depends on the reason you are coming and the challenges you are facing. At the Initial Consultation we can often get a clearer idea of the number of sessions that may be required. You can always choose how often and how many sessions you have and most people feel an improvement very quickly.
